Comparison workflow

Why Hanoon Text Diff

Side-by-side and inline

View differences in side-by-side or unified inline mode. Switch views with a single click.

Word, line, character

Compare at the granularity that matters. Word-level highlights show exactly what changed within each line.

Character-level precision

Highlight small edits, punctuation changes, and replacements that are easy to miss in a normal read-through.

How to compare two texts online

  1. Open Text Diff

Go to text-diff.hanoon.app in your browser.

  2. Enter both texts

Paste or type the original text on the left and the modified text on the right.

  3. View the differences

Differences are highlighted instantly. Switch between side-by-side and inline views, or toggle character-level diff for fine-grained comparison.

How does the text diff comparison work?

The tool compares two texts by line, word, or character and highlights added, removed, and unchanged parts. In word mode, changing “Hello world” to “Hello brave world” highlights “brave” as added.

What diff view modes are available?

Two view modes are available: side-by-side view shows both texts in parallel columns, and inline view merges both texts into a single column with highlighted changes.

Is compared text sent to a server?

Compared text is processed in your browser and is not sent to the app backend or analytics.

How do the whitespace and case options work?

“A B” and “a b” show no differences only when both Ignore whitespace and Ignore case are on; either option alone leaves a difference. Inputs stay unchanged, but word mode can also treat a line break as a space, so use line or character mode when line boundaries matter.

What are the input and character comparison limits?

Both inputs together may contain up to 2,000,000 UTF-16 code units and 50,000 lines; large or complex comparisons may stop. Character mode compares Unicode code points, not visible character clusters, and does not normalize Unicode, so combining marks and joined emoji can produce multiple changes.
